True story- the KnifeWife was having some difficulty trimming up some kind of meat with one of her regular kitchen knives, and it just so happened I had recently used the Buck Vanguard for who knows what and said she should try it. She did. And she was impressed.
This is a beefier fixed version of the Buck 110 folder– a true classic, as you know. Buck provides American made quality with all their blades and this one is no exception. The rubber grip works well in wet hands, the hollow grind helps whatever your cutting slide off the blade. I have no complaints with this knife.
The sheath however is nice, but it’s as if the belt loop was an afterthought. Mine is polyester, they sewed the belt loop partially around the curve in the front, so the blade doesn’t sit parallel to your body, it cants outward just enough to irk you. I ordered another sheath and got more of the same. I really wish they had done a better job because aftermarket sheaths for this wonderful knife can get pricey.
If you’re interested in a really nice hunting knife, a Buck Vanguard won’t disappoint. Availability on Amazon has been sketchy- check out BuckKnives.com if you must or try the alternate button. If I had it to do over again, I might go with the alternate- Buck 192.
