Cold Steel SRK

This is my new favorite fixed blade all purpose beater knife.  The rubber grip with slight palm swells feels good in the hand.  It’s smaller than a full-size Ka-Bar but larger than the Ka-Bar Short or SOG SEAL Pup– It’s just right.

I’ve stabbed metal and chopped wood with this thing and it holds up well.  I expected durability from Cold Steel, and I got it.  There’s a reason this knife is issued to SEAL Team candidates in their Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training.  It takes a beating and stays sharp.

This Cold Steel SRK (Search and Rescue Knife) comes with their Secure-Ex sheath- which does the job even if you don’t snap the strap.  The only downer with the sheath is that it is too secure.  The belt loop is great, but unless you have the tip fastened to something, it can be difficult to deploy- it wants to flex and bend around your belt.

The only other flaw- and it’s barely a flaw, is the pommel is covered in rubber and doesn’t work well as a hammer.  Otherwise, this is a great blade for size, durability, comfort and price.
